The site is actually not new at all, but due to the webmasters inactivity or – let’s be honest – lack of interest the site was a vegetable for years. However, as you can see for yourself, things have changed.

No costs, no registration, no bullsh*t! CGO offers 400 different flash games for free play including Curveball and Alien Invasion 2, so why waste more time reading this review?

Screenshot of Civilization IIf you’re not from out of space, you’ve surely heard of the Civilization games. Civilization I was one of the first turn-based strategy games I played and it’s still fun to play almost 20 years later.

In Civilization you take control of a – you guessed it – civilization to develop it and to possibly become the dominant power in the world. Gameplay starts in the year 4000 B.C. when you only have a Settler unit to scout the surroundings and found your first city.

The key to success in Civilization is finding the right balance between expansion, raw military power and research. And sometimes, if you encounter an aggressive civ very early in the game for example, it’s quite difficult to do so.
The civilization that eliminates all other civilizations is declared the winner.

Civ I is now freeware and can be downloaded from here. It’s a DOS game, so you probably need DOSBox to get it running. A slightly better version of Civ with basic multiplayer options was also released under the name CivNet, which can be downloaded from here. CivNet was created for Win3.1 and should run fine even in Windows XP and Windows 7.

Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D posterHi there!

It’s been a while, but I’ve been busy with IRL stuff. Yeah, I know, that sucks. But I’m back to write about Resident Evil. It’s newest 3D film is pulling people to the cinema. How many of them actually know that it’s based on a video game, I wonder…

Resident Evil was originally released in Japan back in ’95 under the title Biohazard. While good for Japan, the marketing people found the name to be unsuitable for marketing in the US, since there was already a band and another game on the market with that name. So they decided upon a new name internally with the help of a naming contest and “Resident Evil” was chosen since the gameplay in the first release takes place in a mansion.

Resident Evil was one of the first games to combine the genres of “horror game” and “first person shooter”. The plot is quite a catchy one: the Umbrella Corporation develops a new virus called T-Virus, which get’s loose by accident. People who get in contact with the T-Virus get mutated and become flesh eating zombies.

Resident Evil got screened by Hollywood, starring Milla Jovovich, which got it’s 4th sequel out this fall in 3D. The other day I was googling for “Resident Evil” and stumbled upon this Flash game. It sucks big time. Seriously, don’t play it.

Duke Nukem Forever screenshot2KGames announced a couple of days ago, that Duke Nukem Forever will be ready and realeased in the coming year. Gearbox Software is the company that is going to continue with the development of the game until it’s done.

This is without a doubt t h e most important bit of news in the gaming world right now. It’s all over the web and the corporate media tries to convince us that we’ve been patiently waiting for DNF for 13 years. But isn’t it already too late?

Fallout: New Vegas box coverFallout: New Vegas is announced to be released on October 19th in the US and October 22nd in Europe. As you may already know, New Vegas is not a direct sequel to the previous release Fallout 3, but a stand-alone game.

Fallout: New Vegas presents new features to the gameplay. The main improvements include the ability to use new special attacks, new weapons and a weapons modification system. The latter makes it possible to modify the rate of fire, change the magazine size etc.

The reputation system is reintroduced to New Vegas in regards to the quantity of factions in the game.
Probably the most interesting addition is the Hardcore mode, which means that:

  • the character will heal over time, not instantly
  • ammunition has weight
  • consumption of water and food is needed to ensure survival

Dune II: the first RTSDune II was the first RTS and to be honest, the first real computer game I ever played. Westwood Studios managed to create a game that would become the mother of all real-time strategy games.

In Dune II you take control of a house – or dynasty – on Arrakis, a planet which is almost uninhabitable but is the only place in the Galaxy where Spice Ore, a very valuable resource, can be found. Your objective is to build up a base, harvest Spice as quickly and as much as you can and eliminate the enemy House’s base.

You can either play as Atreides (blue), the House that cooperates with the indigenous Fremen who inhabit Arrakis, as Harkonnen (red) who are the only ones who can build the superunit Devastator, or as Ordos, a cartel of wealthy families who hire mercenaries to fight for their cause.

The game consists of 9 missions. After completing the missions you gain control of the entire planet and therefore also of the entire spice production. As the most powerful person in the galaxy you dethrown the Emperor who will try to eliminate you in the last mission.

Dune II is now abandonware and can be downloaded for free here.

Screenshot of Galactiv Civilizations IGalactic Civilizations is a turn-based strategy game that – as the name suggests – takes place in space.

It’s the year 2178, when a new piece of technology surfaces which will change the world. The hyperdrive, invented by the Terran Alliance, makes it possible to travel vast distances in space very fast. As all secrets alike, this one also leaked out to other civilizations and now the race begins for the colonization of space.

In Galciv I the player can command only the human civilization (Terran Alliance). There are 5 other major and 3 minor alien civilizations that compete against you. The gameplay is fun and for the veterans of Master of Orion, this game is a must.

Even though Galciv II is already out, its predecessor is not free. But I can assure you that the $10 you spend is a good investment.

You can buy Galciv I here.

"Kinect for the XBOX 360" logoIt was around this time last year that Microsoft announced its motion controller for the Xbox 360, Project Natal. Today, Microsoft has officially announced the controller. And it gave the project a new name. It’s now called “Kinect for Xbox 360″ and will probably hit the stores this fall.

Kinect is an add-on for the Xbox 360 that features:

  • an onboard camera
  • a motion sensor
  • a multi-array microphone which allows it to capture full body movements in a 3D space

We shall see if XBOX 360, with the new add-on, will be able to beat Wii in the console wars.

Fifa Online LogoStill in open beta, Fifa online enables you to play with 30 leagues, 500 different clubs and over 15,000 players.
